During the last 10 to 15 years, significant focus has been given on fatigue analysis methodologies for Floating Production, Storage and Offloading Ships (FPSOs). The reason for this is a larger cost consequence associated with fatigue cracks in these structures than in traditional tankers. During these years, experience has been gained from classification of FPSOs, experience from a number of detailed fatigue analyses of ships and FPSOs, and recommendations have been made through joint industry projects such as ‘Fatigue Capacity of FPSOs’. In this article, a brief overview of fatigue analysis methodology used for FPSOs today is presented together with some of the recent advances in analysis methodology.
