The propeller as a means of aircraft thrust delivery is introduced. Actuator disk theory for preliminary analysis of propeller performance is covered in some detail. Momentum-blade element theory is then presented as a potentially more accurate means for predicting propeller performance. Design considerations for practical propeller applications are discussed. In the final portion of the chapter, some attention is given to helicopter rotors, a close relative of the propeller.
