People will probably die. Can you imagine the NASA Administrator being interviewed about the agency’s Mars mission plans and telling reporters he/she expects some of the agency’s astronauts will die? After the predictable uproar on Fox News, the agency would be shut down overnight. But Elon Musk is right. Mars, as we discussed in the previous chapter, is a risky proposition and it is almost certain that some of those venturing to the Red Planet will die. How many? Who knows, but that Starship had better pack a few body-bags just in case.
