This thesis proposed the first experimental investigation evaluating the physical ability of nurses about their physical relief in a supervised ergonomic exercise program using a robotic assistance system. The aim was to investigate and understand the kinetic and muscle activation patterns of health-enhancing and compensational strategies of nurses when repositioning a patient simulator from a supine to a lateral position in a care bed. The analysis of which working techniques minimize spine loading, thus relieving physical strain, was extended by a functional approach considering nurses’ physical ability in chair squat performances and ergonomic repositioning tasks to provide interdisciplinary research knowledge for conceiving worksite and individually tailored exercises in the future.
