For the optical detection, tracking and shooting requirements of ROVs, UUVs and other underwater vehicles, an acousto-optic beacon based underwater vehicle recognition and automatic tracking technology is proposed in this paper. By the integrated application of underwater optical and acoustic information, we ingeniously designed a method to seamlessly control underwater PTZ camera to automatically track and shoot underwater vehicles, which overcomes the problems such as low precision of acoustic detection and tracking, limited visual range of underwater environment as well as narrow field of camera view, while improving the vehicle recognition and automatic tracking performance of underwater camera.
