This SAE Recommended Practice establishes uniform Installation Parameters for desiccant Air Dryers for vehicles with compressed air systems. Minor changes have been made in this five year review to cover new air dryer products (larger inlet, outlet and purge tank air port size) that are now available in the market. The definition of the turbo cut-off valve has been expanded to include non-turbo charged air compressor conditions that require this function to eliminate air leakage when the air compressor is unloaded. From the August 2011 ballot additional comments were received to add definitions that cover new air dryer products and associated compressor functions. Added a definition of compressor unloader that includes different means to perform the unloading and loading functions. Added a definition for air dryer modules that has also been introduced into the market. After discussions with the SAE J2384 Air Dryer Test Procedure sponsor for the five year review, it was agreed that SAE J2383 should reference the SAE J2384 document as well as not repeating definitions that apply to both documents.
