This SAE Standard specifies the operating procedures for a controlled irradiance, air-cooled xenon-arc apparatus used for the accelerated exposure of various automotive exterior materials. The sample preparation, test durations, and performance evaluation procedures are covered in material specifications of the different automotive manufacturers. This standard is being balloted for withdrawal as it specifies the use of instruments that have not been manufactured for over 15 years, with no instruments to replace them. The automotive OEMs do specify this standard for materials approvals. This standard is technically replaced by SAE J2527.
