Iannotta interviews Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) director Charles Elachi about whether there would be value in landing on Pluto. Elachi discusses the status of the Webb telescope's Mid-Infrared Instrument and cryocooler, and why there are so many different techniques for landing on Mars. He also explains how the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment technology figure into climate change science. Lastly, he tackles the laser testing on the next GRACE satellites and how he feels about the funding situation at NASA and JPL in particular in the coming years.
