This is Vol. 5 of a 9 volume study. The relationship between driving record and age, sex, and marital status is depicted for the sample of approximately 200,000 drivers. In general, the highest accident and violation frequencies occurred with young drivers, single drivers, and male drivers. The frequencies declined to about age 55 and then began to increase with advancing age. Single females had considerably worse records than married females, probably because of exposure difference. The authors caution against making inference about driving performance from data because no control was exercised over exposure differentials. (Author)
