In the preliminary design of a missile much time is spent laboriously calculating the effects of various design parameters on the missile configuration. With the advent of the third-generation computers, an excellent opportunity exists for the establishment of a preliminary missile design program which would make the design procedure more efficient, not only timewise but also from an engineering standpoint. During fiscal year 1969 the task of developing such a computer program was undertaken. Based on the results obtained thus far it is reasonable to assume that a workable program can be constructed that would, as a minimum, significantly reduce the effort required in designing a missile.
