The SAT-2 configuration for a 426 to 441 kg payload consisting of a laser single access (LSA), S-band single access (SSA), land mobile access (LAMEX), millimeter wave, and 20/30 GHz feeder link systemes is presented. The system budget shows that this payload can be accommodated by SPACEBUS 100 B (EUTELSAT-2) with a mass margin of 90 kg. The selected (fairly balanced) configuration is characterized by the optical LSA terminal and the large electronically steered offset antenna used for S and L-band communication. The 80 precent transparent reflector is counterbalanced by a solid 2 m reflector for LAMEX. A LOCSTAR payload was also envisaged for SAT-2 but the additional 600 W eclipse power required exceeds the SB 100 B payload capability. Two RITA ion thruster assemblies are envisaged.
