The report studies the freeway lane-changing characteristics and validates various lane-changing hypotheses from aerial data. Continuum models on multi-lane freeways are applied to freeway lane drops and exit ramps. Validation studies are carried out using aerial data. Analytical proofs are given for the local flow and concentration relations of continuum models.
