The study objective was to determine the military application of the barge-ship systems. The study includes an in-depth discussion of the basic ship systems and CONUS inland waterways. Applications of the systems are covered in sections dealing with general cargo, ammunition, and force deployments. The barge-ship system was found to offer great potential for military operations in contingencies; conversely, the systems' military potential is limited in the peacetime environment. (Author)
