On September 28, 1982, 41 cars of a 150-care train derailed in the downtown area of Livingston, LA. The 41 cars were filled with highly toxic and flammable chemical materials. Three thousand people had to be evacuated for 14 days. That what was one of the worst hazardous materials/transportation accidents in Louisiana, was also one of the best managed.
