To meet the nation's transportation demand for the 21st century, innovation and technological advances in the transportation field will be essential. The public transit workshops were designed to expose and advance state-of-the-art research on four major themes: (1) energy efficiency as a transportation objective, (2) the impact of changing public policies on urban transportation, (3) the role of public transit in an intermodal transportation systems, and (4) the advance technology systems as they apply to public transportation.
