Under the California steam bus demonstration project, Rankine cycle external combustion propulsion systems were installed on three conventional motor coaches, replacing the original diesel engines. The report presents survey data collected among bus passengers, transit managers, and bus drivers concerning attitudes toward the steam-powered vehicles. The findings revealed a high public concern for the problems of air pollution and a very favorable response to the steam buses. All drivers expressed a preference for the steam bus.
