A report is presented on in depth investigation of motor vehicle fatalities. Factors to be investigated in motor vehicle accidents are: (1) The accident scene including road, weather and traffic conditions and speed of vehicle(s). (2) The nature of injuries sustained by the deceased as determined by autopsy. (3) The role of alcohol, drugs and other chemical agents, including carbon monoxide in the victim and in as many of the survivors involved in the accident as may be possible. (4) Mechanical and design factors related to the vehicle concerned in an effort to assess the role of vehicle defects in accident causation. (5) The psychological factors in the victims of vehicular accidents with special emphasis on drivers, but also including other victims.
