The seasickness project consists of a literature review and an evaluation of vestibular tests such as cupulometry, caloric irrigation and tilting room examinations carried out on Royal Dutch Navy personnel suffering from chronic seasickness, aiming at a vestibular test battery to select on seasickness susceptibility. The report further deals with the try-out with HMS Makkum. Ship movement measurements are described together with methods to determine the motion sickness incidence investigating the relation between ship movement and sickness. Roll motion induces seasickness but the heave motion is clearly more provocative. Influence of seasickness on performance was under investigation as were the psychological and psychophysiological aspects of seasickness: seasickness manifests itself with fear and stress reactions and with hyperventilation.
