General Aviation (GA) is constituted by several segments, some of which are in decline while others experience growth. GA is mostly exercised in Eastern Norway as well as in the cities of Stavinger, Bergen and Trondheim. GA in Norway, is facing various challenges: the implementation of common European regulations, new organisation of airspace (Single European Sky) and access to airports and fuel. GA depends on voluntary efforts, which is reflected in the low number of estimated employment generated-124 man-years. The education of pilots and recruitment to commercial aviation are important societal benefits. Additional benefits are voluntary fire surveillance, search and rescue. As other sports, GA also has intrinsic value in terms of inclusion, community, social development, and enhanced knowledge and competance.
