In a cooperative effort with the City of St. Louis Port Authority, the Maritime Administration (MARAD) has released the Management Information System for the Inland River Port System (IRPS). Designed to improve port management efficiency, the IRPS encompasses fourteen activities that represent managerial concerns of the inland port community. Specifically, they are: Fleeting evaluation; Capital budgeting; Port delay equations; Land use inventory; Commodity flow; Economic impact; Real estate investment analysis; Harbor capacity; Environmental assessment; Incidence history; Leasing income and revenue; General accounting and billing; Cash management--Portfolio analysis; and Word processing, printing, and report editing. These activities, which traverse four major tasks dealing with Port Planning, Port Operations, Land Use Planning, and Administration, allow for an interactive or 'user friendly' environment. Users have the capability of calling any or several software analysis packages in any desired order, moving data into and out of the system, creating data format changes, and interpreting output through screen or print readouts. The system was developed for implementation on two types of personal computers, namely, the Apple IIc and IIe and the IBM-PC or compatible PC's. The Apple and IBM system contain multiple programs which may be purchased individually or as a set...Software Description: The software is written in the BASIC, PFS:FILE and PFS:WORD programming languages on the Apple IIc and IIe microcomputers. It requires a DOS 3.0 operating system.
