About 950 observations from 42 observing stations were used to determine the orbit of the satellite 1968-86A at 17 epochs, between November 1969 and January 1971. The determination was made using the RAE computer program for the refinement of orbital parameters, PROP. Most of the computer runs gave very accurate values of orbital inclination; but unfortunately there were insufficient accurate values near the end of the satellite's life, and so the resulting value for the rotational speed of the atmosphere, namely Lambda = 0.9 plus or minus 0.1 rev/day, at a mean height of 450 km, was less accurate than expected. The value conforms well however with values obtained from other satellite orbits. (Author Modified Abstract)
