Singapore's increasingly prominent role in international trade, finance, and manufacturing is helping to make the island republic a major intercontinental air center. Passenger traffic grew by 45% between 1972 and 1974. During that same 2-year period, Singapore's new international airline put 2 wide-bodied jets into service on its long-haul routes. These developments, along with airport modernization plans now being implemented, will enable U.S. manufacturers of avionics and aviation support equipment to increase their sales substantially in this market.
