Although this data is specialized to USAF-connected accidents, a part of which occur on AF bases, it is felt that there is a commonality between AF vehicles and civilian vehicles in the accident phenomenon. The major objectives of the analysis are severalfold. Areas of application are areas which should lend themselves to regulation and control. The apparent object of such regulation and control is to reduce the number and severity of auto accidents. The second objective of the study is to concentrate analysis effort in the area which relates to the severity of auto accidents, namely accidents which produce personal injury. Within this area, auto type by body design and the employment of safety features are considered. The most general objective of this effort is to acquire a feel for the kind and quality of additional data which is required in order to have a more complete and useful analysis of the motor vehicle accident phenomenon.
