In this study, general information about telescopes is given and the design, development and performance of a hand-made Newtonian telescope is studied. Telescopes have helped us study more closely the stars and planets in the sky for thousands of years. Today, modern telescopes collect and focus light using mirror surfaces. Telescopes are also used for space observations, and these observations help us understand the nature of the universe, the life cycle of stars and the expansion of the universe. Sahin Telescope, which is a hand-made Newtonian telescope, has been designed and its performance has been studied. The telescope has a primary mirror of 300 mm diameter and 1820 mm focal length. During its construction, the primary mirror was shaped as an elliptical paraboloid and tested to reduce optical errors. In addition, the secondary mirror of the telescope was placed in the optical center of the previous one, combined with the optical center. The magnification of the telescope is f/6 and a handmade dubson type mount is used. The mount has been carefully designed to increase the stability of the telescope. In the next study, the performance of the telescope will be evaluated based on the observation results. Its magnification ratio provides high resolution, and it has sufficient light gathering power thanks to its mirror diameter size. In conclusion, this study provides general information about telescopes and can provide guidance on the design and construction of handcrafted telescopes.
