In this paper, an averaged model and a small-signal model of a DC-DC converter built with back-to-back modular multilevel converters (MMC) operating with a square-wave modulation with low total device rating and passive component size are derived for a breakerless MVDC system application. The simulation verifications show the validity of the developed models.
