Disclosed are a portable electronic device and an operating method thereof. The portable electronic device includes: a sensor; and a control unit obtaining motion information of the portable terminal by controlling the sensor in order to detect a motion of at least a portion of an arm of a user, determining whether or not the user is in a driving mode based on the motion information, automatically converting a mode into a driving mode based on the determination, and activating at least one function related to the driving among functions of the portable electronic device based on the conversion into the driving mode.

센서; 및 센서를 제어하여, 사용자 팔의 적어도 일부분의 움직임을 검출하기 위해 휴대 전자 장치의 움직임 정보를 획득하고, 움직임 정보에 기초하여 사용자가 운전 상태에 있는지 여부를 결정하고, 결정에 기초하여 운전 모드로 자동으로 전환하고, 운전 모드로 전환한 것에 기초하여, 휴대 전자 장치의 기능들 중 운전과 관련된 적어도 하나의 기능을 활성화시키는 제어부를 포함하는 휴대 전자 장치가 개시된다.
