Abstract

To provide a map data update method capable of reducing map data storage capacity.SOLUTION: In a map data update method which is executed with a map information system 1 mounted on a vehicle, map data includes plural pieces of block data partitioned for respective blocks on a map and is stored in a storage device 52 of the map information system. The map information system: determines priorities of block data to be updated on the basis of at least either one of a position of an own vehicle, a route to a destination or travel history; communicate with a map server having updated map data; downloads the updated data of the object block data from the map server in accordance with the priorities; and updates the block data stored in the storage device on the basis of the downloaded updated data.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

【課題】地図データの記憶容量を低減することができる地図データの更新方法を提供する。【解決手段】車両に設けられた地図情報システム１が実行する地図データの更新方法であって、地図データは、地図上のブロック毎に区画された複数のブロックデータを含み、地図情報システムの記憶装置５２に記憶され、地図情報システムが、自車両の位置、目的地への経路、通行履歴の少なくとも１つに基づいて、更新すべきブロックデータの優先順位を決定し、最新の地図データを有する地図サーバと通信し、優先順位に従って地図サーバから対象となるブロックデータの更新データをダウンロードし、ダウンロードした更新データに基づいて記憶装置に記憶されたブロックデータを更新する。【選択図】図１
