To reduce power consumption of a camera while maintaining user recognition accuracy in executing smart entry of a vehicle using image recognition.SOLUTION: A vehicle control apparatus 10 includes: a user candidate determination unit 22 which images the surroundings of a vehicle 1 by a first camera 50a of first resolution to determine whether a captured image includes face image candidates of a user; a user determination unit 23 which images, when the user candidate determination unit 22 determines that the face image candidates of the user are included, the surroundings of the vehicle 1 by a second camera 50b second resolution, which is higher than the first resolution, which consumes a larger amount of power than the first camera 50a to determine whether a captured image includes a face image of the user; and an entry permission unit 24 which permits, when the user determination unit 23 recognizes that the face image of the user is included, the user to enter the vehicle 1.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2

【課題】画像認識による車両のスマートエントリーを実行する際に、利用者の認証精度を維持してカメラの消費電力を低減する。【解決手段】車両制御装置１０は、解像度が第１解像度である第１カメラ５０ａにより車両１の周囲を撮影して、撮影画像に利用者の顔画像の候補が含まれているか否かを判定する利用者候補判定部２２と、利用者候補判定部２２により利用者の顔画像の候補が含まれていると判定された場合に、解像度が第１解像度よりも高い第２解像度であって消費電力が第１カメラ５０ａよりも多い第２カメラ５０ｂにより車両１の周囲を撮影して、撮影画像に利用者の顔画像が含まれているか否かを判定する利用者判定部２３と、利用者判定部２３により、利用者の顔画像が含まれていると認識されたときに、車両１への利用者のエントリーを許可するエントリー許可部２４とを備える。【選択図】図２
