PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an occupant protection function different from that of a present automobile when a vehicle like an automobile is in automatic operation.SOLUTION: An occupant protection device 10 of an automobile 1 includes: a seat 4 on which an occupant sits in a vehicle; a pendulum structure 17 provided between the seat 4 and a floor of the vehicle, and supporting the seat 4 to swing in a vehicle width direction of the vehicle while the seat is inclined; and a control part 13 that controls whether to operate the pendulum structure 17. At least during quick turning, when excessive acceleration equal to or more than a prescribed value acts in the vehicle width direction, or during steering control in automatic operation, the control part 13 operates the pendulum structure 17 or allows it to operate, and in cases other than them, prohibits operation of the pendulum structure 17.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
