PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a force applied to a part of an occupant's body with which a strap contacts.SOLUTION: A vehicle occupant protection device comprises: a strap 11 stretched over a body of an occupant seated on a seat 5 of a vehicle; a pretensioner for winding the strap 11; and a control part 30 for controlling winding of the strap 11 by the pretensioner. The control part 30 starts the winding of the strap 11 by the pretensioner before collision, and temporarily loosens the winding of the strap 11 when the body moves forward by an impact of the collision, and then, resumes the winding of the strap 11.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6

【課題】乗員の身体についてのストラップが当接する部位に対して作用する力を削減する。【解決手段】車両の乗員保護装置は、車両のシート５に着座した乗員の身体の前に掛け渡されるストラップ１１と、ストラップ１１を巻き取るプリテンショナと、プリテンショナによるストラップ１１の巻き取りを制御する制御部３０と、を有する。制御部３０は、衝突前に、プリテンショナによるストラップ１１の巻き取りを開始し、衝突時の衝撃により身体が前へ移動する際に、ストラップ１１の巻き取りを一時的に緩め、その後に、再度、ストラップ１１を巻き取る。【選択図】図６
