A method for the production of a rubber composition, comprising: providing an end-of-life-plastic feedstock; pyrolysing the feedstock to produce a pyrolysis char; and mixing the pyrolysis char into a rubber (e.g. EPDM) or thermoplastic polymer composition in an amount of 0.5-60 wt% of total mixture weight. The pyrolysis char may be milled before mixing, and have a mean primary particle size (D50) <50 microns. The rubber composition may comprise a bulking filler (calcium carbonate); a reinforcing filler (carbon black); and/or be devoid of further filler materials. Also claimed is a rubber composition; and a method of manufacturing a rubber component (e.g. tyre), comprising: performing the rubber composition production method, and shaping the composition. Also claimed is the use of pyrolysis char as a substitute for carbon black or calcium carbonate in rubber or plastic compositions; and the use of pyrolysis char from end-of-life plastics to provide a lower or zero carbon footprint rubber or plastic composition.
