A door system 120 for a vehicle 100 comprising a first door 106 movable between an open and a closed position (see Fig.3) covering at least part of an opening 105 of cabin 103; and a first barrier member 112 comprising first and second portions (403,405 Fig.4) moveable between an access position with first and second portions below a floor 114 level (404) and a barrier position where at least the second portion extends to a level (406) above the floor level, adjacent to a door panel (1002, 1201 Figs. 10&12). The barrier member may be a step or running board, aiding access to the cabin. In the barrier position, the barrier may be between at least part of the first door and cabin, or external to the first door. The arrangement may comprise a control system to actuate the barrier member when receiving a request to close the door, and/or when an impact or expected impact is sensed. The arrangement may comprise a second, opposing door 107. The door may be a sliding door and comprise a crosspiece (1401 Fig.14). Also claimed is a method of providing a barrier (2100, 2200, 2300, Figs. 21-23).
