A coupling device for coupling a load carrier to a tow ball is provided. The coupling device comprises a fixed and a movable jaw, wherein the movable jaw is pivotably connected to the fixed jaw for moving from an open position to a clamping position. The coupling device further comprises a lever system for moving the jaws from the open to the clamping position having a first end pivotably connected to the fixed jaw. In addition, the coupling device comprises a transfer arm for providing a clamping force to the movable jaw and the transfer arm has a first end pivotably connected to the movable jaw and a second end pivotably connected to the lever system. A load carrier comprising a coupling device according to any of the examples herein described is also provided.
