The invention relates to a method for detecting whether a host vehicle leaves a current driving lane (1) of a driving road to the left or to the right or whether the host vehicle keeps the current driving lane (1), according to which method an image (10) of a measurement space (9) is generated by means of an image sensor, said measurement space comprising a vehicle front region (3) of the host vehicle, the invention relates to a method, according to which an expected trajectory (5) of the host vehicle is projected into the image (10), according to which method at least one lane boundary (2a, 2b, 2c) laterally adjacent to the trajectory (5) is identified, according to the invention whether the lane (1) is changed or maintained is determined by comparing the trajectory (5) with the identified at least one lane boundary (2a, 2b, 2c). The invention also relates to a controller for a host vehicle and to a host vehicle.
