The invention relates to a protection switch (12) having a mechanical switch (26) which is introduced into a main current path (18) and which has a fixed contact and a movable contact (34) which is connected to a contact bridge (32) which is mounted so as to be movable relative to the fixed contact. The protection switch comprises a driver (38) which is operatively connected to the contact bridge (32) and which has a first drive unit (39) and a second drive unit (56). The first drive unit (39) is energized by means of a control circuit (42) and the second drive unit (56) is connected in parallel to a resistive element (51) introduced into the main current path (18). The invention also relates to a vehicle (2).
