A charging port plug for an electric vehicle (100) includes a plug body and a first plug head for engaging a charging port of a first type; the plug is characterized in that: 5i) the first plug head comprises an electrical contact part and a first resistor for realizing an electrical communication connection between the plug and the vehicle; and/or ii) the first plug head comprises an electrical contact portion and a processor 10 for effecting an electrical communication connection between the plug and the vehicle, and wherein the plug is arranged to send a signal to the vehicle, such as for switching the vehicle into a park or neutral mode; wherein the plug is designed to be incompatible with the charging 15 of the vehicle. A method for protecting a vehicle from leaving, in which the vehicle comprises a charging port of a first type, in which the vehicle is arranged for protecting itself in response to an electrical communication coupling with a plug, and in which the method 20 comprises the steps of: providing a charging port plug; engaging the plug with the charging port of the first type; and establishing an electrical communication connection between the plug and the vehicle by means of the engagement.
