The invention relates to a safety tongs cleaning system and method. The system comprises safety tongs, an elevator master control system, a safety control panel, a limiting switch and a motor. The safety tongs are provided with an electromagnet, an armature, a wedge block, an elastic component and a linkage rod. The elevator main control system is used for sending a cleaning instruction to the safety control panel, so that the safety control panel controls an electromagnet of the safety tongs to be powered off according to the received cleaning instruction; the elastic part is used for stretching under the condition that the electromagnet loses power, so that the elastic part drives the armature to move from the target position to the limiting switch through the linkage rod, and the elastic part drives the wedge block to clean the moving path of the wedge block through the linkage rod; the elevator master control system is further used for sending a reset instruction to the motor under the condition that the arrival signal of the armature sent by the limiting switch is received; and the motor is used for controlling the electromagnet to move towards the armature and pulling the armature to a target position according to the reset instruction. By adopting the method, the cleaning efficiency of the safety tongs can be improved.
