The invention relates to a method for operating an actuator (4) of a motor vehicle (1), which actuator (4) has a servo drive (6) and a signal input (7). The servo drive (6) is operated on the basis of a target value received via the signal input (7) and a threshold value stored in the actuator (4) in order to adjust the actual value of the actuator (4) to the target value, the threshold value being set to be equal to the target value when the target value exceeds the operating range of the actuator (4) defined by the threshold value. The invention also relates to an actuator (4) of a motor vehicle and to a method for operating an actuator (4) and controller (3) device (2) of a motor vehicle (1).
