The invention discloses a V2I-based adaptive accident identification system. The system comprises the following steps: an acquisition unit for acquiring motion state data of a plurality of vehicles connected with a road test unit through a V2I communication mode; a comparison unit for comparing whether the motion state data of the multiple vehicles, acquired by the acquisition unit, is within a preset value scope; an accident center determining unit for determining vehicles in the forefront of all decelerating vehicles in a forward direction when the comparison unit determines that the motion state data of the multiple vehicles is not within the preset value scope, and setting an accident center; a sending unit for sending shooting commands and accident confirmation messages to all the decelerating vehicles in an accident center preset scope; and a determining unit for, according to pictures and accident confirmation messages which are transmitted back by all the decelerating vehicles within the accident center preset scope, determining whether an accident takes place. The invention further provides a V2I-based adaptive accident identification method. Whether the vehicles encounter a traffic accident can be determined and the pictures of an accident field can be sent back at the first time so that damage conditions of the vehicles can be determined.
