An alternator controller comprises a first control device for controlling an alternator and a second control device for transmitting an instruction signal associated with the power generation of the alternator to the first control device at first prescribed intervals. When the first control device receives no instruction signal from the second control device for a prescribed period, the first control device controls the alternator such that an output greater than zero is produced. When the second control device determines that the first control device receives an instruction signal from the second control device as an abnormal instruction signal that does not satisfy a prescribed communication regulation, the second control device suspends the transmission of the instruction signal for a period longer than or equal to the prescribed period.
