Paper presents method for classifying travel behavior or urban residents and suggests procedure for quantitatively estimating diverted traffic; application of method is made to limited sample of Chicago's residents; seven groups of residents with similar travel patterns were identified and impact of new expressway on each of seven groups was estimated.
