Analysis of existing land speed record cars and aerodynamic drag characteristics involved in attaining speed of sound; cars discussed are -- Sonic I -- present title holder at 600 to 601 mph; Green Monster Jet car that has on two occasions held Land Speed Record at 536 and 575 mph, respectively; and Wingfoot Express Rocket car which had reached 510 mph with one rocket misfiring; features of cars are described; importance of minimum profile area is discussed with implication that two wheel tandem principle presents ultimate form for land speed record attempts achieving Mach 1 speeds; examples are Gyronaut X-1, Gyronaut X-2, and Tuscan Gyronaut X-3.
