Iron ore mined in United States in 1929 estimated by Bureau of Mines at 73,283,000 gross tons, increase of 18 per cent compared with 1928; about 86 per cent of iron ore shipped in 1929 came from Lake Superior district, in which approximately 63,059,000 gross tons were mined and 65,129,000 tons were shipped, increases of 20 and 21 per cent, respectively, as compared with 1928.
