Company operates 6 underground gypsum mines in flat lying deposits ranging from 3 ft 10 in. to 12 ft thick; principal hazards of diesel use underground are transport and storage of flammable fuel, exhaust fumes and ignition of flammable atmosphere by hot engine; under comparable conditions, maintenance cost for electric shuttle cars would be about same as for diesels; diesel car is more flexible than electric car and will permit simpler mine layout and greater productivity.
