Description of two experiments carried out at University of Queensland which involved judgments of size and distance made with peripheral vision; it is shown that in certain situations two effects not independent of each other can occur, first being illusion of diminished size in appearance of peripheral object, second being illusion of increase in object's apparent distance; possible consequence of these two illusions to road safety is discussed. (Rec'd 1968).
