For period to 1970 increase of up to 2 1/2 times 1960 passenger-mile traffic is expected; air freight will depend primarily on extent to which costs can be reduced; civil fixed wing aircraft will reach maximum gross weight of 350,000 lb and have longer nonstop capabilities; no radical increase in speed of aircraft or required runway length is anticipated; noise will continue to be significant problem at many airports throughout world.
