In order to comparing the stress situations of asphalt overlay on the rubblized or non rubblized slab. Based on eight-node isoparametric element, the stress intensity factor of asphalt overlay on the two different base layers were analyzed in this paper with rupture mechanics, with the help of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) software. The analysis shows that there are great difference among the first type stress intensity factors and that it is basically similar for the second type stress intensity factors, which indicates that the asphalt overlay on the rubblized slab has better stress situation than that on non-rubblized one, and the possibility of reflective cracking has been remarkably reduced. It shows that rubblization technology can meet the disposing requirement of old PCC slab, and achieve the main purpose.
