The generic expression of outflows v ( t ) and a recursive expression of link travel time are presented under the condition of given inflows u ( t ) and linear link travel time τ ( t ) = α + β x ( t ) . Under the condition of traffic flow satisfy the rule of first in and first out (FIFO), with the expression of traffic flow and linear link travel time model, the conclusions about the relation between the outflows v ( t ) and the inflows u ( t ) are derived, and also, a traffic flow expression at any time is obtained based upon them. Therefore, a more definitive solution of linear link travel time is presented. By use of the conclusion in this paper, we successfully replicate the results of the examples in Carey’s paper. Meanwhile, according to some data from traffic flow survey, the numerical simulation reflects the real traffic flow status.
