Dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) technology can provide the driver with information about other vehicles beyond the normal field of view, and the DSRC-based forward collision warning system can provide voice warning to the driver to prevent traffic accidents. Due to the positioning error and information delay, the system can trigger too early or too late, which affects driving safety. Considering the impact of delay, positioning, and other factors on collision warnings, we propose an improved collision warning model based on DSRC and differential global position system (DGPS). In order to calibrate the model parameters, we perform communication and positioning tests on DSRC equipment performance. Finally, the simulation test proves that the method has higher warning accuracy, and also proves that DSRC and DGPS can be used for vehicle forward collision warning.
