Many studies have shown that air pollution is typically affected by road transportation. In order to further discuss the relationship between road transportation and regional environment carrying capacity, this article has built a road transportation ecological footprint model. In order to explain how to use this model, quantitative calculation with data derived from China Yearbook has been applied. Calculation results can show that the road transportation ecological footprint mainly consists of a fossil energy ecological footprint, and both of them show a tendency of increasing in recent years. Therefore, it can be concluded that fossil energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission are main factors for restricting road transportation's sustainable development. As a result, to make sure road transportation is developed in a sustainable way, many effective measures should be taken.
